Discovery Park of America offers a variety of field trip options for schools, home school groups and other groups desiring a lesson with their visit through our Education Department. Discovery Park is open Tuesday through Sunday; closed on Monday. Ten or more paying students are needed to receive the Education Group Rate. Memberships cannot be used toward group admissions. Pre-registration is required. Please contact the Education Department no later than 3 weeks prior to your visit to begin the registration process.
A single payment is required. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.
Discovery-Guided lessons are available for $9.00 per student. Teacher-guided tours are $8.00 per student.
Admission is free for bus drivers, teachers, and approved chaperones.
Group lunches must be prearranged. Lunch is available from our cafe. Please download our field trip lunch menu to review the available options. If your school does not allow this purchase, please contact us for special arrangements. Seating areas, including the pavilion, are available on a first come, first-served basis.
With a Discovery Guide as the instructor and one or more of our galleries as a backdrop, students will be led through focused lessons and activities correlated with both Common Core and Tennessee State Educational Standards. Kindergarten through 8th grade lessons are grade specific and cross-curricular, and high school lessons are subject specific; all have been designed to last about 90 minutes. Click here to download a list of available lessons for classes Pre K through 8th Grade.
School groups and other groups are welcome to visit the Discovery Park of America without participating in a guided lesson. We don’t, however, recommend trying to see everything in one day! The Discovery Center is a 100,000 square foot building that houses nine permanent exhibit galleries. There are three gardens and seven outside exhibit areas spread across our 50 acre campus. We recommend that teachers and group leaders select an area of focus and allow at least one hour for students to fully explore one gallery or an exhibit area. Teachers, group leaders, and chaperones are expected to supervise students at all times.
Chaperones receive free admission when accompanying a pre-registered group of children. Chaperones are expected to be at least 21 years of age and will supervise the children in their groups at all times while at Discovery Park. Groups must have a minimum of ten paying individuals. The following numbers of chaperones are required:
Pre K – 4th Grade: 1 chaperone per 5 children
Grades 5 – 12: 1 chaperone per 10 children
Please wear clothing that is weather-appropriate as some exhibits are outdoors. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. All backpacks and large bags must be left on the bus or in the car.
Students will be dropped off at Discovery Center, and buses will be parked in the bus parking area.
Pre-registration is required. Please contact us no later than 3 weeks prior to your requested trip date. We will accommodate interested parties on a first-come, first-served basis. To begin the registration process, please download the Field Trip Registration Form and return it to us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will contact you within 5 business days.
