On the day of your visit, space will be provided for you to eat lunch. Upon arrival, you will be notified of your scheduled time and space.
TEACHERS & CHAPERONES
A certain number of teachers and chaperones receive free admission when accompanying a pre-registered group of children. Chaperones are expected to be at least 21 years of age and will supervise the children in their groups at all times while at Discovery Park. Groups must have a minimum of ten paying individuals.
The following numbers of chaperones are required:
- Pre K – 4th Grade: 1 chaperone per 5 children
- Grades 5 – 12: 1 chaperone per 10 children
Chaperones above the required number may receive a discounted admission rate of $10.95 only if they are included in your count and payment. Any parents who are not included in your count and payment will be required to purchase an admission ticket at full price from our ticket counter upon our opening at 10:00 AM.
DISCOVERY GUIDED LESSONS
With a Discovery Guide as the instructor and one or more of our galleries as a backdrop, students will be led through focused lessons and activities correlated with both Common Core and Tennessee State Educational Standards. Kindergarten through 8th grade lessons are grade specific and cross-curricular, and high school lessons are subject specific; all have been designed to last about 90 minutes. TEACHER GUIDED VISIT
School groups and other groups are welcome to visit the Discovery Park of America without participating in a guided lesson. We don’t, however, recommend trying to see everything in one day! The Discovery Center is a 100,000 square foot building that houses nine permanent exhibit galleries. There are five gardens and seven outside exhibit areas spread across our 50 acre campus. We recommend that teachers and group leaders select an area of focus and allow at least one hour for students to fully explore one gallery or an exhibit area. Teachers, group leaders, and chaperones are expected to supervise students at all times.
Please wear clothing that is weather-appropriate as some exhibits are outdoors. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. All backpacks and large bags must be left on the bus or in the car.
Students will be dropped off at Discovery Center, and buses will be parked in the bus parking area.
Pre-registration is required. Please contact us no later than 3 weeks prior to your requested trip date. We will accommodate interested parties on a first-come, first-served basis. To begin the registration process, please download the Field Trip Request Form and return it to us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will contact you within 5 business days.
